STAR TREK 4 Made Official By Paramount; THOR Star Chris Hemsworth Confirmed To Return As George Kirk

Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Bad Robot have today confirmed that a fourth instalment of the franchise is definitely happening . Chris Pine will return as Captain Kirk, while the rest of the cast are also expected to reprise their roles in the movie.

However, here's where things get really interesting. Deadline reveals that the plot of the next movie will head in the following direction: "Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father. Chris Hemsworth, who appeared in the 2009 reboot Star Trek, will return to play George Kirk."

Hemsworth returning to the Star Trek franchise is huge news, and while he may have only shown up for a few minutes in the J.J. Abrams helmed reboot, he made his mark, especially as that was perhaps his most noteworthy role before Thor was released in 2011. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will write the screenplay and J.J. Abrams will produce the Star Trek 4.
